1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Taperfy ("Taperfy," "we," "us," or "our"), governing your access to and use of the Taperfy website, progressive web application, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").

By creating an account, booking an appointment, or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Platform.

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account and use the Platform. Parents and guardians may create accounts and book services on behalf of minors of any age.

2. Description of Service

Taperfy is a barbershop booking platform that connects independent barbers ("Barbers") with customers ("Customers") in local markets. The Platform provides:

  • Online appointment scheduling and management
  • Barber discovery by city and neighborhood
  • Deposit-based booking with no-show protection
  • Payment processing for deposits and services
  • Communication tools including appointment reminders via email and SMS
  • Barber profile and portfolio management
  • Shop and team management for multi-barber locations
  • Subscription-based access to premium features for Barbers

Taperfy acts as a technology platform facilitating the connection between Barbers and Customers. We are not a party to the service agreement between a Barber and a Customer. Barbers are independent professionals, not employees or agents of Taperfy.

3. User Accounts

3.1 Account Registration

To access certain features, you must create an account. You may register using email and password, phone number (via one-time passcode), or Google sign-in. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update your information to keep it accurate.

3.2 Account Types

  • Customer accounts allow you to discover barbers, book appointments, and manage your bookings.
  • Barber accounts allow you to create a professional profile, set your services and availability, accept bookings, manage clients, and receive payments through the Platform.
  • Guest bookings allow customers to book without creating an account. A limited guest record is created for that booking.

3.3 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You must notify us immediately at support@taperfy.co if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

3.4 Account Deactivation and Deletion

You may deactivate or permanently delete your account at any time through your account settings. You are responsible for initiating your own account deletion.

  • Deactivation: Temporarily hides your profile and pauses your account. All your data is preserved. You can reactivate at any time by logging back in.
  • Deletion: Schedules your account for permanent deletion after a 30-day grace period. During the grace period, you can log in and cancel the deletion. After 30 days, your personal data is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

You cannot deactivate or delete your account while you have upcoming appointments. Barbers must also complete or cancel all active bookings and, if they own a shop with other members, transfer shop ownership before requesting account deletion.

Upon permanent deletion, financial transaction records (appointment amounts, deposit amounts, payout records) are retained in anonymized form for a minimum of 7 years as required by Canadian tax law. Your personal identity is removed from these records.

3.5 Account Suspension

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or misuse the Platform.

4. Bookings and Appointments

4.1 Booking Process

When you book an appointment through the Platform, you are entering into a direct service arrangement with the Barber. Taperfy facilitates the booking but is not a party to the service contract between you and the Barber.

4.2 Deposits

Some Barbers require a deposit at the time of booking. Deposits are processed securely through Stripe. The deposit amount is set by the Barber and disclosed to you before you confirm the booking. Deposits serve as no-show protection and may be applied toward the total service cost.

4.3 Cancellation Policies

Each Barber sets their own cancellation policy, including the cancellation window (in hours before the appointment), whether late cancellations result in deposit forfeiture or refund, and same-day cancellation rules. The applicable cancellation policy is captured and displayed at the time of booking.

4.4 No-Shows

If you fail to attend a booked appointment without cancelling within the Barber's cancellation window, you may be marked as a no-show. Depending on the Barber's policy, your deposit may be forfeited. Repeated no-shows may result in a Barber flagging your account or declining future bookings.

4.5 Barber Cancellations

If a Barber cancels your appointment, any deposit you paid will be fully refunded to your original payment method.

5. Payments

5.1 Payment Processing

All online payments, including deposits, are processed by Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe"). By making a payment through the Platform, you agree to Stripe's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Taperfy does not store your full payment card details.

5.2 Currency

All prices, deposits, and payments on the Platform are in Canadian Dollars (CAD).

5.3 Refunds

Refund eligibility is determined by the applicable Barber's cancellation policy. If a Barber cancels an appointment, you will receive a full deposit refund. For customer-initiated cancellations, the refund depends on whether the cancellation falls within the Barber's cancellation window. Refunds are processed through Stripe and typically appear within 5 to 10 business days.

5.4 In-Person Payments

The remaining balance for services (after any deposit) is paid directly to the Barber in person. Taperfy is not responsible for in-person payment disputes.

6. Barber-Specific Terms

6.1 Barber Onboarding

To accept bookings, Barbers must complete the onboarding process, including profile setup, service configuration, and verification. Barber profiles are subject to admin review and approval before becoming publicly discoverable.

6.2 Stripe Connect

Barbers receive payouts through Stripe Connect. By registering as a Barber, you agree to create a Stripe Connected Account and comply with Stripe's Connected Account Agreement. Taperfy deducts a platform fee of 1.5% plus Stripe's standard processing fees (2.9% + $0.30 CAD per transaction) from each deposit collected on your behalf. The net amount after these deductions is transferred to your Stripe connected account on a nightly basis.

6.3 Subscriptions

Barbers may subscribe to paid plans for access to premium features and increased capabilities:

  • Free — $0/month. Unlimited services, online booking, discovery listing, add-ons, portfolio page, email reminders.
  • Pro — $15.99/month. Everything in Free, plus deposit collection, earnings dashboard, client flagging, SMS reminders. 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
  • Studio — $12.99/seat/month. All Pro features per seat, team management, phone booking with deposit link, aggregate reporting. 14-day free trial for new subscribers.

Subscription terms include:

  • Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis through Stripe.
  • Free trial periods apply to paid plans as noted above. You will be charged the applicable plan rate at the end of the trial period unless you cancel before the trial expires. No charge is made if you cancel during the trial.
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with 30 days' notice. Continued use after the price change constitutes acceptance.

6.4 Client Management

Barbers can view client records, including booking history and no-show counts. Barbers may add private notes to client records and flag clients. This information is visible only to the Barber and is not shared with Customers.

6.5 Shop Management

Barbers may create or join shops (multi-barber locations). Shop owners can invite members via invite codes, manage memberships, and configure shared shop profiles. Shop members share a common shop profile while maintaining individual barber profiles.

7. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Provide false or misleading information in your account or profile
  • Use another person's account without authorization
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Platform, including attempting to gain unauthorized access to systems or data
  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable local, provincial, or federal law
  • Harass, abuse, or threaten other users of the Platform
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Platform without our express written consent
  • Circumvent deposit or cancellation policies through fraudulent means
  • Post or transmit content that is defamatory, obscene, or infringes on the rights of others

8. Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of the Platform, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, images, and software, are the property of Taperfy or its licensors and are protected by Canadian and international intellectual property laws.

Barbers retain ownership of their uploaded photos and portfolio content. By uploading content to the Platform, you grant Taperfy a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, and distribute that content solely in connection with operating the Platform.

9. Disclaimers

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

Taperfy does not warrant that (a) the Platform will be uninterrupted or error-free, (b) any defects will be corrected, or (c) the Platform is free of viruses or other harmful components.

Taperfy does not guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of services provided by Barbers. We do not endorse any Barber and are not responsible for any interactions, disputes, or injuries arising from services booked through the Platform.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, TAPERFY AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM.

OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS PAID BY YOU TO TAPERFY IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED CANADIAN DOLLARS ($100 CAD).

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Taperfy and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your use of the Platform, (b) your violation of these Terms, (c) your violation of any third-party rights, or (d) any content you upload to the Platform.

12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Saskatchewan and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Platform shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If the dispute cannot be resolved within thirty (30) days, it shall be submitted to the courts of competent jurisdiction in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on the Platform and updating the "Last updated" date. For material changes affecting your rights, we will provide at least 30 days' notice via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Miscellaneous

  • Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
  • Entire Agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Taperfy regarding your use of the Platform.
  • Waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
  • Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our written consent. Taperfy may assign its rights without restriction.
